Two Upcoming MRI Safety Presentations

“Hello Orlando!”

“Hello Orlando!”

No, there’s not an echo in this posting. I’m simply rehearsing for two nearly-back-to-back presentations on MRI safety issues to different groups, both in Orlando, Florida, in the weeks ahead.

First, on October 26th, I’m giving a one-hour presentation to the State of Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (ACHA) conference. This conference invites architects, engineers, planners, and administrators from the state to attend a few days of concentrated presentations on a number of facility design & construction topics. I’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to present on MRI safety and the designer’s role.

I will be speaking on several subjects that I’ve covered in prior presentations, but I’ll be spicing up the talk with some very recent accounts of MRI accidents, and I’ll probably ‘let slip’ some information on the forthcoming changes to the healthcare building code as they impact MRI suite design.

The second presentation will come just eight days later, at the Healthcare Design (HCD) conference. HCD is a mash-up of what used to be two conferences, one put on by a healthcare design magazine publisher, the other put on by the American Institute of Architects. The new amalgamated conference is a pretty big deal in the healthcare design world, and will be attended by representatives from architectural firms and healthcare providers from across the globe.

The talk at the HCD conference will also be an hour, though will be much more dynamic as it is one of their facilitated round table discussions, as opposed to a ‘stand up lecture.’ This session will include some very specific information on the designers’ role in preventing MRI accidents, and a few examples of what can happen when that process breaks down. We will also discuss the recent changes to the JCAHO Environment of Care standards and forthcoming changes to the healthcare building codes, as they affect MRI standards.

If you’re attending either of these conferences (or are simply in the neighborhood and plan on trying to sneak in the service entrance), I would love to have you participate in either / both of these sessions.

Monday, October 26, ACHA Conference
Rosen Center Hotel & Conference Center, Orlando
4:00 – 5:00 pm – ‘MRI Design and Safety’

Tuesday, November 3, HCD Conference
Gaylord Palms Resort, Orlando
9:15 – 10:15 am – ‘The Healthcare Architect’s Role in MRI Patient Safety’

I really hope to see you in Orlando, Orlando, in the upcoming weeks!
