July 23 - 29, 2012
MRI Safety Week was founded several years ago to celebrate and promote excellence in MRI safety, and always occurs around July 27th. This is the anniversary of the tragic 2001 MRI death of young Michael Colombini, age 6, who died when a portable steel oxygen cylinder was brought into the MRI room during his exam. The 2012 observance marks the 11 year anniverary. There are a number of special activities that professional MRI providers undertake during this week. Some involve patient education. Some are targeted towards informing referring physicians. Often MRI Safety Week is the trigger for annual renewals of safety training or inspections of MRI safety features (when was the last time everything in and on the crash cart was tested, or the cryogen vent pipe was inspected?). In the weeks ahead I will be sharing links to resources for quizzes and other resources to help you plan your MRI Safety Week activities. On behalf of MRI patients, providers, and all of your loved ones, I wish you a happy and productive MRI Safety Week! Respectfully, Tobias Gilk, M.Arch, HSDQ Tobias.Gilk@Mednovus.com (913) 515-8449 |
